A little kitchen scoop hand carved from Texas ebony. Despite its name Texas ebony [Ebenopsis ebano] is not a true ebony. But it is considered one of only a few “exotic” hardwoods that are native to the United States. The wood is dense and hard. but finishes glassy smooth with good natural luster and a nice weight. A good substitute for ebony in that sense. But it isn’t widely available or any less expensive.
Like true ebony it also makes for a fantastic cooking utensil. That weight and feel remind you that what you’re using is something of quality. and the strength of the wood helps insure it will last a really long time. This scoop measures 6-3/4 inches long and holds 1 Tbsp. Brass signature inlay.
