I didn’t have a specific use in mind when carving this spoon, and the piece I started with was long and skinny, so I just made what looked good to me. A deep curved bowl with a lightly curved tapered handle. Simple & elegant.
This Piece is hand carved in African padauk. This exotic hardwood is fairly easy to carve compared to some other species. but it is strong and durable and has some beautiful colors.
The handle is a lighter color than the rest of this spoon. and I believe this was caused by beetle damage to the tree. Most of these were shallow and came out when I was carving. Except one, that goes straight through. which I think makes it even better.

Measurements. 11-1/2 inches long overall Bowl measures 3-1/2 inches long and 1-1/2 inches wide.
