Yarran {Acacia homalophylla} is a tree endemic to Australia. The wood is very hard! and dense making it a challenge to work with. but it finishes smooth, it’s a beautiful wood, and that hardness makes it durable.
It was really hard to get it to show in the photos. But this scoop has nice straight grain with a tight curly figure throughout. I also made the bowl deep and fat with bit of an enclosed form. but I left the walls of the bowl a little thicker than I needed to. just to keep it heavy. I feel like a chubby scoop need some weight.
Measures 7-1/4 inches long and 2-3/4 inches across the bowl at its widest.
bowl holds ½ cup.
